Poetry is a relatively new passion for me. It found me about seven years ago. I stumbled backwards into it at a time in my life when I was very much looking the other way. I believe that’s often how the best things come about—they find us!
Much of my writing reflects my journey over the past decade. It’s a blend of my learnings and observations on themes such as: love, loss, courage, despair, joy nature and many more.
As an artist I also write poetry on the theme of creativity and self-expression and combine them with my art. You can see a few of my art videos below with my art and poetry combined.
I also have prints (See the link below) that I offer in my store, which feature both my art and poetry together.
I often find myself writing about hope and the struggles we all face during difficult times. Topics often come up around family, friendship, success and relationships.
I like to think there’s a positive edge to my poetry—a silver lining. When I revisit my work after some time, I’m always surprised by the layers and hidden depths I hadn’t noticed before.
Writing my poetry has been a daunting step. With dyslexia and challenges related to a car accident in my childhood, which affected my executive functioning. Spelling and remembering words, names, and faces can be tricky.
So my confidence in sharing my poetry in written form is something I continually work on.
To connect with others through my poetry, I perform most of it by reading to camera. I share these readings on social media (mainly Facebook and Instagram). Weaving my writing and performances into videos of my artwork as I create them. (I have added a few examples below for you to take a look at.)
I truly enjoy this process and find great pleasure in it, but most of all it's the comments and connections I make that are so deeply rewarding.
I love to hear from all my website visitors and followers.
Thank you :-)
